Mall Finds

I went to the mall with my family on Saturday and I wanted to show you what I got. First of all, I am not the kind of person who goes to the mall and spends $100.00 on clothes. 2 reasons: I like finding discounts and being frugal and I am not always buying my own clothes because I am only almost 13 AND I have a older and younger sister who need clothes too. My Mom posted on her blog, Dewey's Treehouse about our mall trip. Anyway, back to my mall finds.

I needed a pair of dressier shoes because my other pair were falling apart. Let me tell you, I have size 9 shoe size and sometimes I need a 9, a 9 1/2, or a 9 wide! I needed a 9 wide in flats and there were only about 6 pairs in the shoe store of 9 wide flats! It is in the mall so it's not very big so, I understand them not having very many shoes! I wanted a pair of black flats because they match everything but, I found these gray ones. They had black too but, only in 9 and they had the gray in 9 wide! I really like these.

I could see someone doing a knock-off of these with the jersey knots! These are so comfortable! And we got a discount of 30%! I also went to Old Navy and got a shirt and a tanktop. I like Old Navy and it is a good store but I don't really love Old Navy but, I liked the colour of the shirt. There was a good discount there, it was student/teacher week.

What's that? If you are a student show your student card and if you are a teacher show your teacher I.D.! You don't get I.D. until you are in highschool so, I don't know why they did that. Couldn't they have just given a discount to everyone school aged? Or course I'm only going into 8th grade and I'm homeschooled so, I don't have a student card! My Mom is my teacher (my Dad does do science and math with me) and she has a card from a Provincial Homeschool Group and the cashier said, "What's that?" she took it anyway!

The tanktop that I wore with my t-shirt shrug was a little low for me so I put it on inside out, pinned where the straps should be, sewed, and sewed the loops that were made to the back of the straps. Now it isn't low! Those are my mall finds! What have you found at the mall lately?

T-shirt Shrug

What do you think this is? Ok, my title is giving it away. I made myself a t-shirt shrug on Saturday! Posted by user:EVEnl on the Cut Out and Keep website! A lot of people seemed to like it seeing that there are 66 versions from different people below the tutorial. Here is her version:

I had gotton 2 t-shirts from Old Navy last year around Easter and I didn't end up wearing them that much because they were sort of see-through and I hadn't noticed that before I got them. I thought about those when I saw this linked through Someday Crafts. So, I tried it, and it looks really good! I had some trouble getting it to fold around the neck of the shirt because it was round instead of straight like the sides of the shirt. Oh, and there is going to be more info on the ribbon I used and the tank-top I am wearing under it later this week! I plan to do something different with the other shirt, though. So, here are the photos.

Beach Wrap (Clothes Design Class)

My clothes design class finished in May but, I waited a bit to do a post on my last two projects there. It was an awesome class! We had a mini fashion show at the end for all us girls to show off what we had made. From the title you are guessing I made a beach wrap.Yep! After I made the tank top I had some knit leftover so, with that rectangle I made a beach wrap! Basically, I added velcro and added a jean star applique patch! This isn't a tutorial so I won't go into detail but, if you want a tutorial let me know! The patch looks 10x better than in the photo though! Oh, and did I mention it can be a: beach wrap, skirt, shawl, and beach blanket?! Here are the pictures(and, yes those are the jean shorts!):

VBS

Hi! I'm sorry I haven't really posted at all this week. I was helping with VBS. My Mom was the Kindergarden/Grade 1 teacher and I helped her because I am to old to be a kid in VBS. I helped her last year and I am helping this year! Tommorow is the last day and our class is doing a skit and so is the Grade 4 to 6 and the Grade 2 to 3 classes! I thought the song were really well written this year and I wished the lady from our church could have done of them all! If you want more details my Mom has recently posted a few posts on her blog, Dewey's Treehouse! I had actually heard some of the songs already from different places. Those kids are really fun to be with and I was doing little kid games, I think they liked having the games with me because I was more their age. One little kid asked me to race him so I said, "Sure." I zoomed right passed him and he said, "Boy, you're fast for your age!" That was pretty funny! Oh yeah, here are of my favourite songs from this year's Group VBS. (we didn't do some of them)

(Me and another girl from my church and my sister and I think one or two other kids sang parts on this and it sounds REALLY good)

Old Shirt to New Shirt!

Hi! I made a new t-shirt and it looks really cool! My Dad had gotten a t-shirt at Giant Tiger and he wore it once, washed it, and guess what? It shrunk! I asked him if he had any t-shirts that didn't fit him and was hoping I could repurpose one. He showed me that one and said, "I wore it once and it shrunk, I can't wear it, go ahead!" "Thanks!" So, this is what I did.

I used a t-shirt that fit me really well and pinned up to the armholes because I wanted to change the sleeves. I sewed where the pins were and later I actually had to take it in a bit because I wanted to make sure it wasn't to small for me the first time. Then, I trimmed the excess fabric. I then made the sleeves a different shape so they didn't have that stiff shape of a plain t-shirt's sleeves. I had to make a new hem on the sleeves and I wanted the hem to be very narrow so I had to use something else other then pins, what would that be?

At my family's house we have our Singer on my Great-Grandma's old sewing machine like this. Pretty cool, huh?

Ok, this is how my family got it: When I was born, my Mom and Dad and older sister lived in a tiny house so, they moved in to my Great-Grandparent's old house! The furniture was still there and so was the sewing machine! So, they just put our sewing machine on top(we got a new one since then, though) and it became the sewing spot!

Like the house having furniture, the sewing machine's drawers were filled with cool stuff and my Mom just left that stuff in the drawer for special projects. There is old ric-rac, edging, very vintage thread, and some other misc. stuff. It's really cool to look through that stuff! Well, I asked my Mom if we had any masking tape to hold down the hem while sewing and she said no but...check out what she found in one of the drawers!

Vintage 3M tape! This stuff is so cool and is still sticky!  So, I stuck down the hems and went around. I added a applique star from some of the remain from my jean shorts and cut off the neck rim and stretched it. I cut up the sides a little to make it more into a tunic at the bottom and that was it! The side cuts did come un-done a bit and I had to sew them back but, otherwise it turned out pretty much perfect! The sides have some trouble because of the slits but, I love it!

I didn't take pictures of making it, sorry! I showed my Dad when I was done and he was surprised I finished it so fast! I'm wearing a brown tank-top under it. What do you think? Would you or have you made something like this? Would you like a real tutorial for this?

Happy Canada Day!!!!!
