Beach Wrap (Clothes Design Class)

My clothes design class finished in May but, I waited a bit to do a post on my last two projects there. It was an awesome class! We had a mini fashion show at the end for all us girls to show off what we had made. From the title you are guessing I made a beach wrap.Yep! After I made the tank top I had some knit leftover so, with that rectangle I made a beach wrap! Basically, I added velcro and added a jean star applique patch! This isn't a tutorial so I won't go into detail but, if you want a tutorial let me know! The patch looks 10x better than in the photo though! Oh, and did I mention it can be a: beach wrap, skirt, shawl, and beach blanket?! Here are the pictures(and, yes those are the jean shorts!): 

Old Shirt to New Shirt!

Hi! I made a new t-shirt and it looks really cool! My Dad had gotten a t-shirt at Giant Tiger and he wore it once, washed it, and guess what? It shrunk! I asked him if he had any t-shirts that didn't fit him and was hoping I could repurpose one. He showed me that one and said, "I wore it once and it shrunk, I can't wear it, go ahead!" "Thanks!" So, this is what I did.

I used a t-shirt that fit me really well and pinned up to the armholes because I wanted to change the sleeves. I sewed where the pins were and later I actually had to take it in a bit because I wanted to make sure it wasn't to small for me the first time. Then, I trimmed the excess fabric. I then made the sleeves a different shape so they didn't have that stiff shape of a plain t-shirt's sleeves. I had to make a new hem on the sleeves and I wanted the hem to be very narrow so I had to use something else other then pins, what would that be?

At my family's house we have our Singer on my Great-Grandma's old sewing machine like this. Pretty cool, huh?

Ok, this is how my family got it: When I was born, my Mom and Dad and older sister lived in a tiny house so, they moved in to my Great-Grandparent's old house! The furniture was still there and so was the sewing machine! So, they just put our sewing machine on top(we got a new one since then, though) and it became the sewing spot!

Like the house having furniture, the sewing machine's drawers were filled with cool stuff and my Mom just left that stuff in the drawer for special projects. There is old ric-rac, edging, very vintage thread, and some other misc. stuff. It's really cool to look through that stuff! Well, I asked my Mom if we had any masking tape to hold down the hem while sewing and she said no but...check out what she found in one of the drawers!

Vintage 3M tape! This stuff is so cool and is still sticky!  So, I stuck down the hems and went around. I added a applique star from some of the remain from my jean shorts and cut off the neck rim and stretched it. I cut up the sides a little to make it more into a tunic at the bottom and that was it! The side cuts did come un-done a bit and I had to sew them back but, otherwise it turned out pretty much perfect! The sides have some trouble because of the slits but, I love it!

I didn't take pictures of making it, sorry! I showed my Dad when I was done and he was surprised I finished it so fast! I'm wearing a brown tank-top under it. What do you think? Would you or have you made something like this? Would you like a real tutorial for this?

Finished Shorts (Clothes Design Class)

   Hello! I finished the pair of shorts I talked about and here are the pictures. I cut the pair of jeans using a measuring tape to measure how long I wanted and a binder so I could get the line straight. Then I used Crayola fabric markers to make designs around the pockets and used an iron like the package says to set the designs. I made a sash and put dots on it and ironed that too. Then I used magenta thread and a straight stitch around the bottoms of the shorts so they would only fray up to the stitch. That was it! What do you think?

More Clothes Design Class

Hello!

I finished the shirt that I was making. (pictures coming soon!) Now I want to make a pair of jean shorts. Not from scratch! I have an old pair of jeans from Old Navy that are kind of baggy but would look fine as shorts. Here is what they look like now. I will post picture when they are done. I also picked up these markers from a yard sale about a year ago for about a dollar and I think I might use them. What do you think?

Old Navy!

Hello! Disclaimer: I was not asked to do this review and it was done at my own free will.

I have found a really good store that almost always has what you are looking for. What store is that? Old Navy. A few of my friends also find that they have a little something for everyone. I think people like it because Old Navy's clothes come in so many different colours and styles that you almost always come out with something. Here's a link to the girls section.

  Here are some things that I think are the highlights of their store: They have very nice fitting jeans in quite a varity of washes. I have the jeans below and love them. I had been looking for jeans for a long time that fit pretty much perfectly and because the size range is so large it makes it easy to find some jeans that fit.

  Let's say you are a size 8 for example, you can try a 8 in regular, slim, or plus size and in flare, boot-cut, or skinny. I have a story: Before I knew that my size came in regular, slim and plus-size I picked out two different washes of boot-cut jeans, tried one pair on and they fit perfect, tried on the other and they were all baggy. I said, "Huh?" Then I figured out that they had stickers that showed if they were regular, slim, or plus size!

  Another thing is that they have nice sweaters. So if you need a sweater I would recomend Old Navy. Here are two that I found on the website that are nice. I have the sweater below only in pink with white stripes.

They have about $3.00 flip flops in so many colours and patterns. I would get a new pair every year because the foam ones do pick up germs. The regular sandles look pretty nice too.

They also have loads of graphic t-shirts with cute decals. Here are some I found on the website. I have one that says: I Like Doing Fun Stuff!

That's why I think Old Navy is a good place to shop. Especially for girls in between the ages 7 and 15. ~~Ponytails
